Wethersfield Estate & Garden

Unique in America for its inspired interpretation of Renaissance ideas of the garden, Wethersfield imports the thematic relationship between the bosco and the formal garden, with commissioned statuary in Stillman’s Wilderness Garden evoking a Dantean descent into the afterlife and ascent out of it to a terraced formal paradise at the highpoint of the property. Adjoining the Renaissance Garden is a seven-acre woodland garden known as “The Wilderness,” which contains some of the trails for riding, and hiking. Wethersfield feeds more than 20 miles of trails for equestrian sport, as well as for hikers and cross-country skiing. Throughout the trails are hidden surprises for birders and nature enthusiasts.
