-Discover wall-to-wall science with dozens of presenters from throughout the Capital Region and beyond at miSci’s 2nd Annual Science Festival! Offered throughout the Festival will be stage shows in the Festival Tent, Jeff Boyer’s Fun with Energy, Dino Rock, live bird presentations with Kelly Martin and many more. Explore nanotechnology, robotics, natural sciences, chemistry, astronomy, and more with miSci, the Adirondack Museum, Dudley Observatory, Time Warner Cable, San Francisco’s Exploratorium, Scotia-Glenville Children’s Museum, KAPL, Huyck Preserve, Schoharie Crossing and many other partners! A special kick-off event opens the Festival on Wednesday, November 11. Educators are invited to a special STEM summit and teacher appreciation event on Thursday, November 12 from 4:30-7:30 pm, where educators can attend break-out workshops and earn professional development credit.
Unless noted, admission to all Festival events is included in miSci admission and free for miSci members.
Highlights include:
- Special Planetarium shows offered daily at 10 am,11 am,1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, and 4 pm. (additional charge for planetarium)
- Stage shows in the Festival Tent include: Fun with Energy by Jeff Boyer on Wednesday; Dino Babies by Dino Rock on Friday and Saturday; and Live Bird Presentation with Kelly Martin on Sunday.
- Dudley Observatory Skywatch lecture at 6 pm followed by a Star Party at miSci from 7 to 9 pm on Friday, November 13. Dr. Valerie Rapson, the new Outreach Astronomer at the Dudley Observatory, will present "Mars - The Wet Red Planet." Valerie recently obtained a Ph.D. in Astrophysical Sciences and Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she conducted research on how stars and planets form. She is a National Astronomy Ambassador, and has spent many years teaching people of all ages about the wonders of the Universe. Join Valerie as she discusses the recent news of liquid water on present-day Mars. Learn about the history of Martian exploration, the search for water and life, and the possibility of astronauts traveling to Mars in the future. Admission to the Dudley Observatory Skywatch Lecture and Star Party is $10 per adult and $15 per family.
