Thacher State Park is a hotspot for fall migration of many species of birds of prey. The dramatic cliffside along the overlook creates thermals (warm air) rising into the sky, allowing Turkey Vultures, Broadwing Hawks, Bald Eagles, and many more to easily glide over the Hudson Valley on their journey south.
Join us on Saturday, September 14th from 10am-3pm as our friends at Helderberg Escarpment Hawk Watch count and identify the birds (and even butterflies) that pass by. Wildlife rehabilitator Kelly Martin, and Whispering Willows Wild Care will be attending with non-releasable hawks and owls to view up-close! Park staff will have a binocular station so visitors can try to spot and identify the birds as well. There will be crafts and activities, storytelling, face painting, food and more at this free event!
