Citizen Science: THE GREAT BACKYARD BIRD COUNT

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 02/13/2016
For four days in February, the citizen science program called The Great Backyard Bird Count is held. This project is spearheaded by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. If you would like to come and help scientists track the mid-winter distribution and abundance of birds, or if you would just like to sip coffee and learn about common backyard birds at Five River’s birding window, please join us for this program.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Bring binoculars if you have them, or we have a few to loan.

Register as a family or a group. Field parties will be assigned territories at Five Rivers. We’ll begin with a “binocular boot camp,” then send you out to count birds. Afterward, we’ll meet at the visitor center to compile our sightings, swap stories, and warm up with hot cocoa. Registration is required. Please call 518-475-0291 by Monday, December 28 at 4:00 PM to register. A limited supply of binoculars will be available for loan to those who do not have their own.

*Times, dates, and prices of any activity posted to our calendars are subject to change. Please be sure to click through directly to the organization’s website to verify.
