*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 10/08/2016
Discover the origins of autumn celebrations like Halloween, Thanksgiving and tales about the Harvest Moon. Interpreters in Dutch clothing will prepare food over the fire, kids can make paper lanterns and follow the scavenger hunt to tasty treats.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Interpreters in 17th century Dutch clothing will prepare German “Weckmann” and Dutch pancakes in the hearth kitchen, just as colonial settlers would in the 17th and 18th centuries.  Visitors can make a paper lantern and collect candy to commemorate St. Martin’s Day, a Northern European holiday similar to Halloween.  Learn about Native American fall traditions, including the meanings and interpretations behind the Harvest Moon.  And enjoy the museum open house, featuring a museum scavenger hunt for kids.
