Eleanor started her dancing career at Public School #4 in Albany where she first began taking classes. She received her first lessons from Tommy Sternfeld at a price of less than $.50 a lesson. While in junior high school, Eleanor began student teaching at Sternfeld’s while at the same time taking private lessons at “Evelyn Leonard’s”. At the time, Evelyn had a dance troupe that did many area shows. When in high school, Eleanor started teaching for Sternfeld’s and had the opportunity to do numerous performances on WRGB’s Teenage Barn as well as traveling with their road shows. After graduation, she taught six days a week Sternfeld’s until she opened her own studio fifty one years ago.

At this time, Eleanor started doing choreography for New York State Shows, Colonie Country Club, and Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus shows included “Guys and Dolls,” “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Oklahoma” and “Of Thee I Sing.”

As time went on, dance competitions came to the forefront and have become more prominent over the years. Eleanor’s studio has won numerous State and National and even some World titles. Some of her students have appeared in Broadway shows and her latest protégé, Corey Snide, has been performing on the London stage as Billy in the production “Billy Elliott”. Corey has now been called to Australia (where the show is scheduled to officially open in December 2007) to replace one of the “Billy”s who sustained an injury. Corey was both a gold medal First Place Winner in “Show Dancing And Tap” at the world’s competition in Reisa, Germany. We are all so proud of Corey.

Eleanor’s School of Dance continues with their competition classes as well as all of the regular dance classes from ages 2 ½ through adult. Our philosophy is “Although we are teaching the art of dance, we want our students to have fun and make many lasting friendships through their years of dancing.” Everyone who takes classes here is part of our dance family.
